HDTV - What You Need To Know
In February 2009, the whole United States is going to Digital TV.
Your old analog TV won't work after that; so, you'll need to do something if you want to continue watching TV.
In fact, you should probably start finding out about it now. You may not want to rush out and buy anything yet.
One of the experts says that there will be changes. It's new technology and
they're still arguing about which is the best format. In fact, he mentions NOT buying a complete set, which includes the
monitor AND the tuner in one box. He suggests buying a separate "digital monitor" and a box called a "digital tuner" to go
on top of it. That way, if they change formats on you, all you have to buy
again is that little box.

One of my favorites - How Stuff Works. Info on Digital TV (DTV) and High Definition TV (HDTV), which is also "digital"; it's
just "high definition" digital.

Here is the government website on the subject. You probably want to go there and check briefly.
The big thing about this one is that, if you don't want to go out and buy a new set, you CAN just buy a converter to convert the digital
signals to analog, which we've been using for 50 years. If you choose to do this, you can apply for a $40 coupon to be used
against the purchase. But, of course, you won't get the benefit of the High Definition that all your friends and
neighbors are talking about.
